Thomas is an Associate Professor and Chair of American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Thomas recently published a book entitled, “Desire and Disaster in New Orleans: Tourism, Race, and Historical Memory”.

DURHAM, N.C. - Dr. Yaba Blay, renowned activist, cultural critic, and producer, launches Professional Black Girl, an original video series created to celebrate everyday Black womanhood, and to smash racist and "respectable" expectations of how they should "behave." Seventeen Black women and girls ranging in age from 2- to 52-years-old were interviewed for the series.

Lorraine Toussaint is an award winning actress and producer. Recently, she’s received acclaimed reviews for her roles in Orange Is The New Black, Selma and currently stars in the fox series Rosewood.

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz brought their son to the 10th annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball in New York City. Alicia wore a fitted red gown and Swizz opted for a black suit, but it was little Egypt who stole the show in a red letterman's jacket and matching red Converse kicks.
