Barry Jenkins, Director of 'Moonlight' Explains Black Masculinity
"Because the world is so hard on young Black men, you end up creating this version of masculinity. You have to perform it in a certain way to protect yourself and to protect your community in a certain way." Moonlight director Barry Jenkins said.
Barry Jenkins is the writer and director of Moonlight, it follows the three life stages of Chiron, a young African-American boy trying to figure out his identity in Liberty City, a rough Miami neighborhood. It was based on the play by In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by Tarell Alvin McCraney.
Moonlight is nominated for 8 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
