He was blindsided by his son’s deadly attack on Dallas police officers.

The father of shooter Micah Johnson broke down in tears and struggled to find words as he tried to make sense of last week’s tragedy during a sit-down interview with TheBlaze published Monday.

“I don’t know what to say to anybody to make anything better,” James Johnson said, his lips quivering.

“I didn’t see it coming,” he added, heaving with emotion.

“I love my son with all my heart. I hate what he did,” the devastated dad said.

James Johnson, 55, broke his silence alongside his ex-wife Delphine Johnson, 49, who also expressed dismay at their son’s decision to open fire on police officers Thursday night.

Delphine recalled her son, 25, as a fun-loving extrovert who transformed into a “hermit” after returning from an Army deployment in Afghanistan in July 2014.

A short excerpt of the video interview posted on TheBlaze.com early Monday didn’t get into the sexual harassment allegations that led the Army to kick Johnson out of Afghanistan before his tour ended.

His lawyer previously told the Daily News that his commanding officers sent him home early after a female soldier accused him of sexual harassment, requested the Army equivalent of a restraining order against him and suggested he receive “mental help.”

“I don’t remember anything about it,” Delphine Johnson told TheBlaze when asked if her son ever mentioned any particular experiences in the Army that he found traumatic.

“The military was not what Micah thought it would be,” she said. “He was very disappointed, very disappointed. But it may be that the ideal that he thought of our government, of what he thought the military represented, it just didn’t live up to his expectations.”

The parents repeatedly denied prior media requests for interviews but reached out to TheBlaze’s Lawrence Jones after seeing him on television, the outlet said.
